Anxiety. Paranoia. Anger. Insecurity.
Those emotions were swirling inside Drew Sharpe when he made the decision to trust Jesus with his life in 2013.
“I knew I needed Him in control of my life because when I tried to control it, it was disastrous,” says Drew, a former U.S. Marine.
After 14 years of meth addiction and 4 years in prison, he had a lot of baggage. The path to freedom involved discovering in the Bible what God wanted for his life. It also took friends and mentors to guide him as he followed Jesus.
Trusting God’s promises is different, and that’s why my life is different.
“I learned that the closer I walked with Jesus and other believers, they less I struggled with those issues.”
Each step of the way, Drew learned he could trust God’s promises, and give his anxieties to God whenever situations felt overwhelming. The struggles gradually released their grip on his life.
“I am no longer that criminal, drug addict, selfish, non-existent father that I used to be.”
At the beginning of the journey, the hope of Drew’s heart was reconnecting with a daughter he had barely known. God brought them together, and their relationship grows stronger every day.
Drew got so much more. In 2015, he married, becoming a father to his wife’s two children. And a baby girl of their own followed shortly after that.
His probation was terminated in 2017 — two years early.
“Trusting God’s promises is different, and that’s why my life is different,” Drew says.
